How to set up Google Business Profile (the right way)

A Google Business Profile is the highest-value free thing a local business can set up. Here is the six-step setup that actually ranks — categories, NAP, reviews, photos.

A Google Business Profile (still often called "Google My Business") is the free listing that puts your business on Google Maps and in the local "map pack". For any business with a location, it is the single highest-value free thing you can set up. Here is how to do it properly.

1. Claim or create the profile Search your business name on Google. If a profile exists, claim it; if not, create one at google.com/business. Verify ownership — unverified profiles do not rank.

2. Choose the right primary category This is the biggest ranking lever and the most common mistake. Your primary category should match what you most want to rank for. Add relevant secondary categories too, but the primary one matters most.

3. Complete every field Name, address, phone — your real, consistent NAP — plus hours, website, services and a genuine description. A complete profile outranks a half-finished one. (More on this in what is local SEO.)

4. Add real photos Profiles with photos get more clicks and calls. Add your storefront, interior, team and products — real photos, not stock.

5. Get reviews — and reply to them Review count, rating and recency are among the strongest local ranking factors. Ask happy customers, and reply to every review. Never buy fake reviews — Google removes them and can suspend the profile.

6. Post regularly Offers, updates and events keep the profile active, which Google rewards.

The Thai context Set the profile up to convert in both Thai and English, and expect customers to message you on LINE — make sure someone answers quickly.

Want it managed? A profile is easy to create and easy to leave half-optimised. Our Google Business Profile / local SEO service handles setup, optimization and reviews — or get a free audit of your current profile.
