Thai-language SEO: why translating your English site isn't enough

Half of Thailand searches in Thai, yet many businesses treat Thai SEO as an afterthought: run the English site through a translator and tick the box. It is the most expensive shortcut in Thai search, because Thai is not English with different letters. It behaves differently, and Google knows it.

Thai has no spaces between words

Thai is written without spaces between words, so Google has to segment the text to understand it. Machine-translated copy often segments badly, producing phrases no Thai person would type — and therefore no one searches. Native writing avoids this because the writer already thinks in the real search phrases.

Thais search differently

Thai search is shorter, more conversational, and heavy with particles and slang. People search "ร้านกาแฟเปิดดึก" not the formal equivalent. They mix scripts freely: "ซื้อ iPhone 15 ที่ไหนถูก". An English-first process never surfaces these queries because the keyword research was done in the wrong language to begin with.

Mixed Thai-English is the norm

Brand names, tech terms, and product models stay in English inside Thai sentences. A page that only uses formal Thai, or only English, misses the way people genuinely type. Real Thai content writing captures the mix naturally.
